Praise to the Lord For His Love and Faithfulness
A Psalm. A Song for the Sabbath Day.
1 It is agood to give thanks to the Lord, And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High;
2 To bdeclare Your lovingkindness in the morning,
And Your faithfulness every night,
3 cOn an instrument of ten strings,
On the lute,
And on the harp,
With harmonious sound.
4 For You, Lord, have made me glad through Your work;
I will triumph in the works of Your hands.
5 dO Lord, how great are Your works!
eYour thoughts are very deep.
6 fA senseless man does not know,
Nor does a fool understand this.
7 When gthe wicked 1spring up like grass,
And when all the workers of iniquity flourish,
It is that they may be destroyed forever.
8 hBut You, Lord, are on high forevermore.
9 For behold, Your enemies, O Lord,
For behold, Your enemies shall perish;
All the workers of iniquity shall ibe scattered.
10 But jmy 2horn You have exalted like a wild ox;
I have been kanointed with fresh oil.
11 lMy eye also has seen my desire on my enemies;
My ears hear my desire on the wicked
Who rise up against me.
12 mThe righteous shall flourish like a palm tree,
He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
13 Those who are planted in the house of the Lord
Shall flourish in the courts of our God.
14 They shall still bear fruit in old age;
They shall be 3fresh and 4flourishing,
1 The aLord reigns, He is clothed with majesty;
The Lord is clothed,
bHe has girded Himself with strength.
Surely the world is established, so that it cannot be 1moved.
2 cYour throne is established from of old;
You are from everlasting.
3 The floods have 2lifted up, O Lord,
The floods have lifted up their voice;
The floods lift up their waves.
4 dThe Lord on high is mightier
Than the noise of many waters,
Than the mighty waves of the sea.
5 Your testimonies are very sure;
Holiness adorns Your house,
O Lord, 3forever.
God the Refuge of the Righteous
1 O Lord God, ato whom vengeance belongs—
O God, to whom vengeance belongs, shine forth!
2 Rise up, O bJudge of the earth;
1Render punishment to the proud.
3 Lord, chow long will the wicked,
How long will the wicked triumph?
4 They dutter speech, and speak insolent things;
All the workers of iniquity boast in themselves.
5 They break in pieces Your people, O Lord,
And afflict Your heritage.
6 They slay the widow and the stranger,
And murder the fatherless.
7 eYet they say, “The Lord does not see,
Nor does the God of Jacob 2understand.”
8 Understand, you senseless among the people;
And you fools, when will you be wise?
9 fHe who planted the ear, shall He not hear?
He who formed the eye, shall He not see?
10 He who 3instructs the 4nations, shall He not correct,
He who teaches man knowledge?
11 The Lord gknows the thoughts of man,
That they are futile.
12 Blessed is the man whom You hinstruct, O Lord,
And teach out of Your law,
13 That You may give him 5rest from the days of adversity,
Until the pit is dug for the wicked.
14 For the Lord will not 6cast off His people,
Nor will He forsake His inheritance.
15 But judgment will return to righteousness,
And all the upright in heart will follow it.
16 Who will rise up for me against the evildoers?
Who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity?
17 Unless the Lord had been my help,
My soul would soon have settled in silence.
Your mercy, O Lord, will hold me up.
19 In the multitude of my anxieties within me,
Your comforts delight my soul.
20 Shall ithe throne of iniquity, which devises evil by law,
Have fellowship with You?
21 They gather together against the life of the righteous,
And condemn jinnocent blood.
22 But the Lord has been my defense,
And my God the rock of my refuge.
23 He has brought on them their own iniquity,
And shall 7cut them off in their own wickedness;
The Lord our God shall cut them off.
A Call to Worship and Obedience
1 Oh come, let us sing to the Lord!
Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation.
2 Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving;
Let us shout joyfully to Him with apsalms.
3 For bthe Lord is the great God,
And the great King above all gods.
4 1In His hand are the deep places of the earth;
The heights of the hills are His also.
5 cThe sea is His, for He made it;
And His hands formed the dry land.
6 Oh come, let us worship and bow down;
Let dus kneel before the Lord our Maker.
And ewe are the people of His pasture,
And the sheep 2of His hand.
fToday, if you will hear His voice:
8 “Do not harden your hearts, as in the 3rebellion,
gAs in the day of 4trial in the wilderness,
9 When hyour fathers tested Me;
They tried Me, though they isaw My work.
10 For jforty years I was 5grieved with that generation,
And said, ‘It is a people who go astray in their hearts,
And they do not know My ways.’
11 So kI swore in My wrath,
‘They shall not enter My rest.’ ”
A Song of Praise to God Coming in Judgment
1 Oh, asing to the Lord a new song!
Sing to the Lord, all the earth.
2 Sing to the Lord, bless His name;
Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.
3 Declare His glory among the 1nations,
His wonders among all peoples.
4 For bthe Lord is great and cgreatly to be praised;
dHe is to be feared above all gods.
5 For eall the gods of the peoples are idols,
fBut the Lord made the heavens.
6 Honor and majesty are before Him;
Strength and gbeauty are in His sanctuary.
7 hGive 2to the Lord, O families of the peoples,
Give to the Lord glory and strength.
8 3Give to the Lord the glory due His name;
Bring an offering, and come into His courts.
9 Oh, worship the Lord iin the beauty of holiness!
Tremble before Him, all the earth.
10 Say among the 4nations, j“The Lord reigns;
The world also is firmly established,
It shall not be 5moved;
kHe shall judge the peoples righteously.”
11 lLet the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad;
mLet the sea roar, and 6all its fullness;
12 Let the field be joyful, and all that is in it.
Then all the trees of the woods will rejoice before the Lord.
13 For He is coming, for He is coming to judge the earth.
nHe shall judge the world with righteousness,
And the peoples with His truth.

About The New King James VersionThe New King James Version is a total update of the 1611 King James Version, also known as the "Authorized Version." Every attempt has been made to maintain the beauty of the original version while updating the English grammar to contemporary style and usage. The result is much better "readability." It is noteworthy that the NKJV is one of the few modern translations still based on the "Western" or "Byzantine" manuscript tradition. This makes the New King James Version an invaluable aid to comparative English Bible study. |
