The Lord’s Care over All His Works.
1 aBless the Lord, O my soul!
O Lord my God, You are very great;
You are bclothed with splendor and majesty,
2 Covering Yourself with alight as with a cloak,
bStretching out heaven like a tent curtain.
3 1He alays the beams of His upper chambers in the waters;
1He makes the bclouds His chariot;
1He walks upon the cwings of the wind;
4 1He makes 2athe winds His messengers,
5 He aestablished the earth upon its foundations,
So that it will not 1totter forever and ever.
6 You acovered it with the deep as with a garment;
The waters were standing above the mountains.
7 At Your arebuke they fled,
At the bsound of Your thunder they hurried away.
8 The mountains rose; the valleys sank down
To the aplace which You established for them.
9 You set a aboundary that they may not pass over,
So that they will not return to cover the earth.
10 1He sends forth asprings in the valleys;
They flow between the mountains;
11 They agive drink to every beast of the field;
The bwild donkeys quench their thirst.
12 1Beside them the birds of the heavens adwell;
They 2lift up their voices among the branches.
13 1He awaters the mountains from His upper chambers;
bThe earth is satisfied with the fruit of His works.
14 1He causes the agrass to grow for the 2cattle,
And bvegetation for the 3labor of man,
So that 4he may bring forth 5food cfrom the earth,
15 And awine which makes man’s heart glad,
bSo that he may make his face glisten with oil,
And 1food which csustains man’s heart.
16 The trees of the Lord 1drink their fill,
The cedars of Lebanon which He planted,
17 Where the abirds build their nests,
And the bstork, whose home is the 1fir trees.
18 The high mountains are for the awild goats;
The bcliffs are a refuge for the 1cshephanim.
19 He made the moon afor the seasons;
The bsun knows the place of its setting.
20 You aappoint darkness and it becomes night,
In which all the bbeasts of the forest 1prowl about.
21 The ayoung lions roar after their prey
1And bseek their food from God.
22 When the sun rises they withdraw
And lie down in their adens.
23 Man goes forth to ahis work
And to his labor until evening.
24 O Lord, how amany are Your works!
1In bwisdom You have made them all;
The cearth is full of Your 2possessions.
25 1There is the asea, great and 2broad,
In which are swarms without number,
Animals both small and great.
26 There the aships move along,
And 1bLeviathan, which You have formed to sport in it.
27 They all await for You
To bgive them their food in 1due season.
28 You give to them, they gather it up;
You aopen Your hand, they are satisfied with good.
29 You ahide Your face, they are dismayed;
You btake away their 1spirit, they expire
And creturn to their dust.
30 You send forth Your 1aSpirit, they are created;
And You renew the face of the ground.
31 Let the aglory of the Lord endure forever;
Let the Lord bbe glad in His works;
32 1He alooks at the earth, and it btrembles;
He ctouches the mountains, and they smoke.
33 1I will sing to the Lord 2aas long as I live;
1I will bsing praise to my God 3while I have my being.
34 Let my ameditation be pleasing to Him;
As for me, I shall bbe glad in the Lord.
35 Let sinners be aconsumed from the earth
And let the bwicked be no more.
cBless the Lord, O my soul.
The Lord’s Wonderful Works in Behalf of Israel.
1 Oh agive thanks to the Lord, bcall upon His name;
cMake known His deeds among the peoples.
2 Sing to Him, asing praises to Him;
3 1Glory in His holy name;
Let the aheart of those who seek the Lord be glad.
4 Seek the Lord and aHis strength;
bSeek His face continually.
5 Remember His 1awonders which He has done,
His marvels and the bjudgments 2uttered by His mouth,
6 O seed of aAbraham, His servant,
O sons of bJacob, His cchosen ones!
His ajudgments are in all the earth.
8 He has aremembered His covenant forever,
The word which He commanded to a bthousand generations,
9 The acovenant which He made with Abraham,
And His boath to Isaac.
10 Then He aconfirmed it to Jacob for a statute,
To Israel as an everlasting covenant,
11 Saying, “aTo you I will give the land of Canaan
As the 1bportion of your inheritance,”
12 When they were only a afew men in number,
Very few, and bstrangers in it.
13 And they wandered about from nation to nation,
From one kingdom to another people.
14 He apermitted no man to oppress them,
And He breproved kings for their sakes:
15 “aDo not touch My anointed ones,
And do My prophets no harm.”
16 And He acalled for a famine upon the land;
He bbroke the whole staff of bread.
17 He asent a man before them,
Joseph, who was bsold as a slave.
18 They afflicted his afeet with fetters,
1He himself was laid in irons;
19 Until the time that his aword came to pass,
The word of the Lord 1btested him.
20 The aking sent and released him,
The ruler of peoples, and set him free.
21 He amade him lord of his house
And ruler over all his possessions,
22 To 1imprison his princes 2aat will,
That he might teach his elders wisdom.
23 aIsrael also came into Egypt;
Thus Jacob bsojourned in the land of Ham.
24 And He acaused His people to be very fruitful,
And made them stronger than their adversaries.
25 He aturned their heart to hate His people,
To bdeal craftily with His servants.
26 He asent Moses His servant,
And bAaron, whom He had chosen.
27 They 1aperformed His wondrous acts among them,
And miracles in the land of Ham.
28 He asent darkness and made it dark;
And they did not brebel against His words.
29 He aturned their waters into blood
And caused their fish to die.
30 Their land swarmed with afrogs
Even in the bchambers of their kings.
31 He spoke, and there came a aswarm of flies
And bgnats in all their territory.
32 He 1gave them ahail for rain,
And flaming fire in their land.
33 He astruck down their vines also and their fig trees,
And shattered the trees of their territory.
34 He spoke, and alocusts came,
And young locusts, even without number,
35 And ate up all vegetation in their land,
And ate up the fruit of their ground.
36 He also astruck down all the firstborn in their land,
The bfirst fruits of all their vigor.
37 Then He brought them out with asilver and gold,
And among His tribes there was not one who stumbled.
38 Egypt was aglad when they departed,
For the bdread of them had fallen upon them.
39 He spread a acloud for a 1covering,
And bfire to illumine by night.
40 1They aasked, and He brought bquail,
And satisfied them with the 2cbread of heaven.
41 He opened the 1rock and awater flowed out;
2It ran in the dry places like a river.
42 For He aremembered His holy word
With Abraham His servant;
43 And He brought forth His people with joy,
His chosen ones with a joyful ashout.
44 He agave them also the lands of the 1nations,
That they bmight take possession of the fruit of the peoples’ labor,
45 So that they might akeep His statutes
And observe His laws,
Israel’s Rebelliousness and the Lord’s Deliverances.
Oh agive thanks to the Lord, for He bis good;
For cHis lovingkindness is everlasting.
2 Who can speak of the amighty deeds of the Lord,
Or can show forth all His praise?
3 How blessed are those who keep 1justice,
2Who apractice righteousness at all times!
4 Remember me, O Lord, in Your afavor 1toward Your people;
Visit me with Your salvation,
5 That I may see the aprosperity of Your chosen ones,
That I may brejoice in the gladness of Your nation,
That I may cglory with Your 1inheritance.
6 aWe have sinned 1blike our fathers,
We have committed iniquity, we have behaved wickedly.
7 Our fathers in Egypt did not understand Your 1wonders;
They adid not remember 2Your abundant kindnesses,
But brebelled by the sea, at the 3Red Sea.
8 Nevertheless He saved them afor the sake of His name,
That He might bmake His power known.
9 Thus He arebuked the 1Red Sea and it bdried up,
And He cled them through the deeps, as through the wilderness.
10 So He asaved them from the 1hand of the one who hated them,
And bredeemed them from the 1hand of the enemy.
11 aThe waters covered their adversaries;
Not one of them was left.
12 Then they abelieved His words;
They bsang His praise.
13 They quickly aforgot His works;
They bdid not wait for His counsel,
14 But acraved intensely in the wilderness,
And 1btempted God in the desert.
15 So He agave them their request,
But bsent a 1wasting disease among them.
16 When they became aenvious of Moses in the camp,
And of Aaron, the holy one of the Lord,
17 The aearth opened and swallowed up Dathan,
And engulfed the 1company of Abiram.
18 And a afire blazed up in their 1company;
The flame consumed the wicked.
19 They amade a calf in Horeb
And worshiped a molten image.
20 Thus they aexchanged their glory
For the image of an ox that eats grass.
21 They aforgot God their Savior,
Who had done bgreat things in Egypt,
22 1aWonders in the land of Ham
And awesome things by the 2Red Sea.
23 Therefore aHe said that He would destroy them,
Had not bMoses His chosen one stood in the breach before Him,
To turn away His wrath from destroying them.
24 Then they adespised the bpleasant land;
They cdid not believe in His word,
25 But agrumbled in their tents;
They did not listen to the voice of the Lord.
26 Therefore He 1aswore to them
That He would cast them down in the wilderness,
27 And that He would acast their seed among the nations
And bscatter them in the lands.
28 They ajoined themselves also to 1Baal-peor,
And ate bsacrifices offered to the dead.
29 Thus they aprovoked Him to anger with their deeds,
And the plague broke out among them.
30 Then Phinehas astood up and interposed,
And so the bplague was stayed.
31 And it was areckoned to him for righteousness,
To all generations forever.
32 They also aprovoked Him to wrath at the waters of 1Meribah,
So that it bwent hard with Moses on their account;
33 Because they awere rebellious against 1His Spirit,
He spoke rashly with his lips.
34 They adid not destroy the peoples,
As bthe Lord commanded them,
35 But athey mingled with the nations
And learned their 1practices,
36 And aserved their idols,
bWhich became a snare to them.
37 They even asacrificed their sons and their daughters to the bdemons,
38 And shed ainnocent blood,
The blood of their bsons and their daughters,
Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan;
And the land was cpolluted with the blood.
39 Thus they became aunclean in their 1practices,
And bplayed the harlot in their deeds.
40 Therefore the aanger of the Lord was kindled against His people
And He babhorred His 1cinheritance.
41 Then aHe gave them into the hand of the 1nations,
And those who hated them ruled over them.
42 Their enemies also aoppressed them,
And they were subdued under their 1power.
43 Many times He would adeliver them;
They, however, were rebellious in their bcounsel,
And so csank down in their iniquity.
44 Nevertheless He looked upon their distress
When He aheard their cry;
45 And He aremembered His covenant for their sake,
And 1brelented caccording to the greatness of His lovingkindness.
46 He also made them aobjects of compassion
In the presence of all their captors.
47 aSave us, O Lord our God,
And bgather us from among the nations,
To give thanks to Your holy name
48 aBlessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,
From everlasting even to everlasting.
And let all the people say, “Amen.”
