5 sFor this cause left I thee in tCrete, that uthou shouldest set in order the things that are ||vwanting, and wordain xelders in every city, as I had yappointed thee: 6 zIf any be ablameless, the husband of one wife, bhaving faithful children not accused of criot or dunruly. 7 For ea bishop must be ablameless, as fthe steward of God; not gselfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre; 8 But a lover of hospitality, ha lover of ||good men, isober, just, holy, temperate; 9 kHolding fast lthe faithful word ||mas he hath been taught, nthat he may be able by osound doctrine both to exhort and to pconvince the gainsayers. 10 For there are many dunruly and qvain talkers and rdeceivers, specially sthey of the circumcision: 11 Whose mouths must be stopped, twho subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, ufor filthy lucre’s sake. 12 vOne of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, The wCretians are alway liars, evil beasts, xslow bellies. 13 This witness is true. Wherefore yrebuke them zsharply, that they amay be sound in the faith; 14 bNot giving heed cto Jewish fables, and cccommandments of men, that turn from dthe truth. 15 eUnto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and funbelieving is nothing pure; but even their gmind and conscience is defiled. 16 They profess that they hknow God; but iin works they jdeny him, being abominable, and kdisobedient, and lunto every good work ||reprobate.

2 But speak thou the things which become asound doctrine: 2 That bthe aged men be ||csober, dgrave, etemperate, afsound in gfaith, in gcharity, in gpatience. 3 hThe aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh ||holiness, not ||ifalse accusers, knot given to much wine, teachers of good things; 4 That they may teach the young women to be ||lsober, to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 To be lediscreet, chaste, mkeepers at home, good, nobedient to their own husbands, that othe word of God be not blasphemed. 6 ooYoung men likewise exhort lpto be ||sober minded. 7 qIn all things shewing thyself ra pattern of good works: in sdoctrine shewing uncorruptness, dgravity, tsincerity, 8 uSound speech, that cannot be condemned; vthat he that is of the contrary part wmay be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you. 9 Exhort xservants to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things; not ||answering again; 10 Not ypurloining, but shewing all good fidelity; zthat they may adorn athe doctrine of bGod our Saviour in all things. 11 For cthe grace of God ||that dbringeth salvation ehath appeared fto all men, 12 Teaching us that, gdenying ungodliness and hworldly lusts, we should live isoberly, righteously, and godly, in kthis present world; 13 lLooking for that blessed mhope, and nthe glorious nnappearing of othe great ooGod and our Saviour Jesus Christ; 14 pWho gave himself for us, qthat he might redeem us from all iniquity, and rpurify unto himself sa peculiar people, tzealous of good works. 15 These things speak, and uexhort, and xrebuke with all authority. yLet no man despise thee.

3 aPut them in mind bto be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready cto every good work, 2 dTo speak evil of no man, to be eno brawlers, but fgentle, shewing all gmeekness unto all men. 3 For hwe ourselves also were isometimes kfoolish, ldisobedient, mdeceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in nomalice and nenvy, hateful, and hating one another. 4 But after that pthe kindness and ||love of qGod our Saviour toward man rappeared, 5 sNot by works of righteousness which we have done, but taccording to his mercy he saved us, by uvthe washing of wregeneration, and xrenewing of vthe Holy Ghost; 6 Which he yshed on us †abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; 7 That zbeing justified by his grace, awe should be made heirs baccording cto the hope of eternal life. 8 dThis is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou eaffirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful fto maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men. 9 But gavoid foolish hquestions, and hgenealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for ithey are unprofitable and vain. 10 A man that is an kheretick lafter the first and second admonition mnreject; 11 Knowing that he that is such iis subverted, and sinneth, obeing condemned of himself.

12 When I shall send Artemas unto thee, or pTychicus, qbe diligent to come unto me to Nicopolis: rfor I have determined there to winter. 13 sBring Zenas tthe lawyer and uApollos on their journey vdiligently, that nothing wbe wanting unto them. 14 And let ours also learn fto ||maintain good works xfor necessary uses, that they be ynot unfruitful. 15 All that are with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith. zGrace be with you all. Amen.

1 *God, who at sundry times and ain divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath bin these last days cspoken unto us by dhis Son, whom he hath eappointed fheir of all things, gby whom also he made hthe worlds; 3 Who being ithe brightness jof his glory, and kthe express image of his person, and lupholding all things by the word of his power, mwhen he had by himself purged our sins, nsat down oon the right hand of the Majesty on high; 4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained pa more excellent name than they. 5 For unto which of the angels said he at any time, qThou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? 2 Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should †let them slip. 2 For if the word aspoken by angels was stedfast, and bevery transgression and disobedience received a just crecompence of reward; 3 dHow shall we escape, if we neglect so great esalvation; which fat the first began to be spoken by gthe Lord, and was gconfirmed unto us hby them that heard him; 4 God also bearing them witness, both with gisigns and iwonders, and with divers klmiracles, and ||kgifts of the Holy Ghost, maccording to his own will?

5 For nunto the angels hath he not put in subjection othe world to come, whereof we speak. 6 But pone in a certain place qtestified, saying, rWhat is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man, that thou visitest him? 7 Thou madest him ||a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands: 8 sThou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But tnow we see not yet all things put under him. 9 But we see Jesus, uvwho was made a little lower than the angels ||vwfor the suffering of death, ucrowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should xtaste death yfor every man. 10 zFor it became him, afor whom are all things, and bby whom are all things, in bringing cmany sons unto glory, to make dthe captain of their salvation eperfect through sufferings. 11 For both fhe that sanctifieth and gthey who are sanctified hare all of one: for which cause ihe is not ashamed to call them jbrethren, 12 Saying, kI will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of lthe church will I sing praise unto thee. 13 And again, mI will put my trust in him. And again, nBehold I and the children owhich God hath given me. 14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of pflesh and blood, qhe also himself likewise took part of the same; that rthrough death he might sdestroy him that had the power of death, tthat is, the devil; 15 And deliver them who uthrough vfear of death were all their lifetime wsubject to vbondage. 16 For verily †he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham. 17 Wherefore xxin all things it behoved him qto be made like unto his brethren, that he might be ya merciful and faithful high priest zin things pertaining to God, to amake reconciliation for the sins of the people. 18 yFor in that he himself hath suffered bbeing tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.

3 Wherefore, aholy brethren, partakers of bthe heavenly ccalling, consider dthe Apostle and eHigh Priest of our fprofession, Christ Jesus; 2 Who was faithful to him that †appointed him, as also gMoses was faithful in all his house. 3 For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as hhe who hath ibuilded the house hath more honour than the house. 4 For every house is ibuilded by some man; but jhe that ibuilt all things is God. 5 And gMoses verily was kfaithful in all his house, as la servant, mfor a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after; 6 But Christ as na son over his own house; owhose house are we, if we phold fast qthe confidence and rthe rejoicing sof the hope firm tunto the end. 7 Wherefore (as uthe Holy Ghost saith, vTo day if ye will hear his voice, 8 Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness: 9 When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works wforty years. 10 Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways. 11 xSo I sware in my wrath, †They shall not enter into my rest.)

12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from ythe living God. 13 But zexhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened athrough the deceitfulness of sin. 14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we bhold the beginning of our cconfidence bstedfast unto the end; 15 While it is said, dTo day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation. 16 For esome, when they had heard, did fprovoke: howbeit gnot all that came out of Egypt by Moses. 17 But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, hwhose icarcases fell in the wilderness? 18 And kto whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that lbelieved not? 19 So we see that mthey could not enter in because of nunbelief.
