13 There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood aPilate had mingled with their sacrifices. 2 And Jesus answering said unto them, bSuppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things? 3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. 4 Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in cSiloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were ||sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem? 5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. 6 He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and dhe came and sought fruit thereon, and found none. 7 Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: ecut it down; why cumbereth it the ground? 8 And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it: 9 And if it bear fruit, fwell: and if not, then after that thou shalt ecut it down.
10 And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath. 11 And, behold, there was a woman which had a gspirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise hlift up herself. 12 And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity. 13 And he ilaid his hands on her: and immediately she was jmade straight, and kglorified God. 14 And lthe ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, llbecause that Jesus had healed on the sabbath day, and said unto the people, mThere are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and nnot on the sabbath day. 15 The Lord then answered him, and said, oThou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose phis ox or his ass from the qstall, and lead him away to watering? 16 And ought not this woman, rbeing a daughter of Abraham, whom gSatan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day? 17 And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and sall the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.
18 tThen said he, uUnto what is the kingdom of God like? and whereunto shall I resemble it? 19 It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his garden; and it grew, and waxed a great tree; and the fowls of the air lodged in the branches of it. 20 And again he said, uWhereunto shall I liken the kingdom of God? 21 It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three ||measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.
22 wAnd he went through the cities and villages, teaching, and xjourneying toward Jerusalem. 23 Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few ythat be saved? And he said unto them, 24 zaStrive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. 25 bWhen once the master of the house is risen up, and chath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, dLord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, eI know you not whence ye are: 26 Then shall ye begin to say, fWe have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and gthou hast taught in our streets. 27 But he shall say, I tell you, eI know you not whence ye are; hdepart from me, all ye workers of iniquity. 28 iThere shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see kAbraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out. 29 kAnd they shall come lfrom the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God. 30 And, behold, mthere are last which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last.
31 The same day there came certain of the Pharisees, saying unto him, Get thee out, and depart nhence: for oHerod will kill thee. 32 And he said unto them, Go ye, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and to morrow, and the third day pI shall be perfected. 33 Nevertheless I must ppwalk to day, and to morrow, and qthe day following: for rit cannot be that sa prophet perish out of Jerusalem. 34 tO Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen udoth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not! 35 Behold, xyour house is left unto you desolate: and verily I say unto you, Ye shall not see me, until the time come when ye shall say, yBlessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
14 And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees ato eat bread on the sabbath day, that they bwatched him. 2 And, behold, there was a certain man before him which had the dropsy. 3 And Jesus canswering spake unto the dlawyers and Pharisees, saying, eIs it lawful to heal on the sabbath day? 4 And they held their peace. And he took him, and healed him, and let him go; 5 And canswered them, saying, Which of you shall have fan ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the sabbath day? 6 And gthey could not answer him again to these things.
7 And he hput forth a parable to those which were bidden, when he imarked how they chose out the jchief rooms; saying unto them, 8 When thou art bidden of any man to a kwedding, sit not down in the jhighest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him; 9 And he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou lbegin with shame to take the lowest room. 10 mBut when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, nFriend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee. 11 oFor whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
12 Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a pdinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee. 13 But when thou qmakest a feast, call rthe poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: 14 And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for sthou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection tof the just.
15 And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, uBlessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God. 16 Then said he unto him, xA certain man made a great supper, and bade many: 17 And sent his servant at supper time yto say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready. 18 And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought za piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused. 19 And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and aI go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused. 20 And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come. 21 So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither bthe poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind. 22 And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room. 23 And the lord said unto the servant, cGo out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. 24 For I say unto you, dThat none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.
25 And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them, 26 eIf any man come to me, and fhate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and ghis own life also, he cannot be my disciple. 27 hAnd whosoever doth not ibear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple. 28 For which of you, kintending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? 29 Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him, 30 Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish. 31 Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet lhim that cometh against him mwith twenty thousand? 32 Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an nambassage, and desireth conditions of peace. 33 So likewise, whosoever he be of you that oforsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple. 34 pSalt is good: pqbut if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned? 35 It is neither rfit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but qmen cast it out. sHe that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
15 Then drew near unto him aall bthe publicans and sinners for to hear him. 2 And the Pharisees and scribes cmurmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them. 3 And he spake this parable unto them, saying, 4 dWhat man of you, having an hundred sheep, eif he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine fin the wilderness, and ggo after that which is lost, until he find it? 5 And when he hath found it, hhe layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing. 6 And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found imy sheep which was lost. 7 I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine kjust persons, which need no repentance.
8 Either what woman having ten ||pieces of silver, if she lose one ||piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it? 9 And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the ||piece which I had lost. 10 Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of lthe angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.
11 And he said, A certain man had two sons: 12 And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me mthe portion of goods nthat falleth to me. And he divided unto them ohis living. 13 And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and ptook his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living. 14 And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want. 15 And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. 16 And qhe would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him. 17 And when he rcame to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! 18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, sI have sinned against heaven, and before thee, 19 sAnd tam no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. 20 And he arose, and came to his father. But uwhen he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and wran, and xfell on his neck, and ykissed him. 21 And the son said unto him, Father, zI have sinned against heaven, aand in thy sight, and tam no more worthy to be called thy son. 22 But the father said to his servants, Bring forth bthe best robe, and put it on him; and put ca ring on his hand, and dshoes on his feet: 23 And bring hither the efatted calf, and fkill it; and let us eat, and gbe merry: 24 hFor this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to gbe merry. 25 Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard imusick and dancing. 26 And he called one of the servants, and kasked what these things meant. 27 And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath ekilled the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound. 28 And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and intreated him. 29 And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me la kid, that I might gmake merry with my friends: 30 But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast ekilled for him the lfatted calf. 31 And he said unto him, Son, mthou art ever with me, and nall that I have is thine. 32 It was meet that we should gmake merry, and be glad: ofor this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.
16 And he said also unto his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which had aa steward; and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods. 2 And he called him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? give an account of thy stewardship; for thou mayest be no longer steward. 3 Then the asteward said within himself, What shall I do? for my lord taketh away from me the stewardship: I cannot dig; to beg I am ashamed. 4 I am resolved what to do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, bthey may receive me into their houses. 5 So he called every one of his lord’s debtors unto him, and said unto the first, How much owest thou unto my lord? 6 And he said, An hundred ||cmeasures of oil. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and sit down quickly, and write fifty. 7 Then said he to another, And how much owest thou? And he said, An hundred ||cmeasures of wheat. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and write fourscore. 8 And the lord commended dthe unjust asteward, because he had done wisely: for ethe children of this world are in their generation wiser than fthe children of light. 9 And I say unto you, gMake to yourselves friends of dthe ||mammon dof unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, hthey may receive you into everlasting habitations. 10 iHe that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much. 11 If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous ||mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? 12 And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man’s, who shall give you that which is your own? 13 kNo servant can serve two masters: for either he will lhate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
14 And the Pharisees also, mwho were covetous, heard all these things: and they nderided him. 15 And he said unto them, Ye are they which ojustify yourselves before men; but pGod knoweth your hearts: for qthat which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God. 16 rThe law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and severy man presseth into it. 17 tAnd it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail. 18 uWhosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery.
19 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in wpurple and xfine linen, and yfared sumptuously every day: 20 And there was a certain beggar named zLazarus, which was alaid at his bgate, full of sores, 21 And cdesiring to be fed with dthe crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. 22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by ethe angels into Abraham’s fbosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; 23 And in ghell hhe lift up his eyes, being in itorments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in fhis bosom. 24 And he cried and said, kFather Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool lmy tongue; for I mam tormented in this lflame. 25 But Abraham said, Son, nremember that thou in thy lifetime oreceivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is ocomforted, and thou art tormented. 26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. 27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house: 28 For I have five brethren; that he may ptestify unto them, lest they also come into this place of itorment. 29 Abraham saith unto him, They have qMoses and the prophets; let them hear them. 30 And he said, Nay, kfather Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. 31 And he said unto him, rIf they hear not qMoses and the prophets, sneither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
17 Then said he unto the disciples, aIt is bimpossible but that offences will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come! 2 cIt dwere better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should aoffend one of these little ones. 3 eTake heed to yourselves: fIf thy brother trespass against thee, grebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him. 4 And if he trespass against thee hseven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.
5 And ithe apostles said unto the Lord, kIncrease our faith. 6 And the Lord said, lIf ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this msycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you. 7 But which of you, having a servant plowing or feeding cattle, will say unto him nby and by, when he is come from the field, oGo and sit down to meat? 8 And will not rather say unto him, Make ready wherewith I may sup, and ogird thyself, and oserve me, till I have eaten and drunken; and afterward thou shalt eat and drink? 9 Doth he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I trow not. 10 So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are punprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.
11 And it came to pass, qas he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of rSamaria and sGalilee. 12 And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, twhich stood afar off: 13 And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, uMaster, have mercy on us. 14 And when he saw them, he said unto them, xGo shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed. 15 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice yglorified God, 16 And zfell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a aSamaritan. 17 And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? 18 There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this bstranger. 19 And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: cthy faith dhath made thee whole.
20 And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, ewhen the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not ||with fobservation: 21 Neither gshall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is ||within you. 22 And he said unto the disciples, hThe days will come, when ye shall desire ito see one of the days of the Son of man, and ye shall not see it. 23 kAnd gthey shall say to you, See here; or, see there: go not after them, nor follow them. 24 lFor as the lightning, that lighteneth out of the one part under heaven, shineth unto the other part under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in mhis day. 25 But first nmust he suffer many things, and be rejected of this generation. 26 And oas it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. 27 They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. 28 Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; 29 But pthe same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. 30 Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man qis revealed. 31 In that day, rhe which shall be upon the housetop, and his sstuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back. 32 tRemember Lot’s wife. 33 uWhosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall xpreserve it. 34 I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left. 35 yTwo women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left. 36 ||zTwo men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. 37 And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, aWheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles be gathered together.
