Joel 1:15–20 — The New International Version (NIV)

15 Alas for that day!

For the day of the Lord is near;

it will come like destruction from the Almighty.

16 Has not the food been cut off

before our very eyes—

joy and gladness

from the house of our God?

17 The seeds are shriveled

beneath the clods.

The storehouses are in ruins,

the granaries have been broken down,

for the grain has dried up.

18 How the cattle moan!

The herds mill about

because they have no pasture;

even the flocks of sheep are suffering.

19 To you, Lord, I call,

for fire has devoured the pastures in the wilderness

and flames have burned up all the trees of the field.

20 Even the wild animals pant for you;

the streams of water have dried up

and fire has devoured the pastures in the wilderness.

Joel 1:15–20 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

15 Alas for the day! for the day of the Lord is at hand,

And as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.

16 Is not the meat cut off before our eyes,

Yea, joy and gladness from the house of our God?

17 The seed is rotten under their clods,

The garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down;

For the corn is withered.

18 How do the beasts groan!

The herds of cattle are perplexed,

Because they have no pasture;

Yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate.

19 O Lord, to thee will I cry:

For the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness,

And the flame hath burned all the trees of the field.

20 The beasts of the field cry also unto thee:

For the rivers of waters are dried up,

And the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.

Joel 1:15–20 — New Living Translation (NLT)

15 The day of the Lord is near,

the day when destruction comes from the Almighty.

How terrible that day will be!

16 Our food disappears before our very eyes.

No joyful celebrations are held in the house of our God.

17 The seeds die in the parched ground,

and the grain crops fail.

The barns stand empty,

and granaries are abandoned.

18 How the animals moan with hunger!

The herds of cattle wander about confused,

because they have no pasture.

The flocks of sheep and goats bleat in misery.

19 Lord, help us!

The fire has consumed the wilderness pastures,

and flames have burned up all the trees.

20 Even the wild animals cry out to you

because the streams have dried up,

and fire has consumed the wilderness pastures.

Joel 1:15–20 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

15 Alas for the day!

For the day of the Lord is at hand;

It shall come as destruction from the Almighty.

16 Is not the food cut off before our eyes,

Joy and gladness from the house of our God?

17 The seed shrivels under the clods,

Storehouses are in shambles;

Barns are broken down,

For the grain has withered.

18 How the animals groan!

The herds of cattle are restless,

Because they have no pasture;

Even the flocks of sheep suffer punishment.

19 O Lord, to You I cry out;

For fire has devoured the open pastures,

And a flame has burned all the trees of the field.

20 The beasts of the field also cry out to You,

For the water brooks are dried up,

And fire has devoured the open pastures.

Joel 1:15–20 — New Century Version (NCV)

15 What a terrible day it will be!

The Lord’s day of judging is near,

when punishment will come

like a destroying attack from the Almighty.

16 Our food is taken away

while we watch.

Joy and happiness are gone

from the Temple of our God.

17 Though we planted fig seeds,

they lie dry and dead in the dirt.

The barns are empty and falling down.

The storerooms for grain have been broken down,

because the grain has dried up.

18 The animals are groaning!

The herds of cattle wander around confused,

because they have no grass to eat;

even the flocks of sheep suffer.

19 Lord, I am calling to you for help,

because fire has burned up the open pastures,

and flames have burned all the trees in the field.

20 Wild animals also need your help.

The streams of water have dried up,

and fire has burned up the open pastures.

Joel 1:15–20 — American Standard Version (ASV)

15 Alas for the day! for the day of Jehovah is at hand, and as destruction from the Almighty shall it come. 16 Is not the food cut off before our eyes, yea, joy and gladness from the house of our God? 17 The seeds rot under their clods; the garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the grain is withered. 18 How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate. 19 O Jehovah, to thee do I cry; for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field. 20 Yea, the beasts of the field pant unto thee; for the water brooks are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.

Joel 1:15–20 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

15 Alas for the day! for the day of Jehovah is at hand, and as destruction from the Almighty shall it come. 16 Is not the food cut off before our eyes, joy and gladness from the house of our God? 17 The seeds are rotten under their clods, the granaries are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the corn is withered. 18 How do the beasts groan! The herds of cattle are bewildered, for they have no pasture; the flocks of sheep also are in suffering. 19 To thee, Jehovah, do I cry; for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned up all the trees of the field. 20 The beasts of the field also cry unto thee; for the water-courses are dried, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.

Joel 1:15–20 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

15 This will be a terrible day!

The day of the Lord is near,

and it will come like destruction from the Almighty.

16 Food disappears right before our eyes.

Happiness and rejoicing disappear from our God’s temple.

17 Seeds shrivel up in their shells.

Storehouses are destroyed.

Barns are ruined.

The grain has dried up.

18 The animals groan.

Herds of cattle wander around confused.

There’s no pasture for them.

Even flocks of sheep are suffering.

19 O Lord, I cry to you for help!

Fire has burned up the open pastures.

Flames have burned up all the trees in the orchards.

20 Even wild animals long for you.

Streams run dry.

Fire has burned up the open pastures.

Joel 1:15–20 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

15 Woe because of that day!

For the Day of the Lord is near

and will come as devastation from the Almighty.

16 Hasn’t the food been cut off

before our eyes,

joy and gladness

from the house of our God?

17 The seeds lie shriveled in their casings.

The storehouses are in ruin,

and the granaries are broken down,

because the grain has withered away.

18 How the animals groan!

The herds of cattle wander in confusion

since they have no pasture.

Even the flocks of sheep suffer punishment.

19 I call to You, Lord,

for fire has consumed

the pastures of the wilderness,

and flames have devoured

all the trees of the countryside.

20 Even the wild animals cry out to You,

for the river beds are dried up,

and fire has consumed

the pastures of the wilderness.

Joel 1:15–20 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

15 Alas for the day!

For the day of the Lord is near,

and as destruction from the Almighty it comes.

16 Is not the food cut off

before our eyes,

joy and gladness

from the house of our God?

17 The seed shrivels under the clods,

the storehouses are desolate;

the granaries are ruined

because the grain has failed.

18 How the animals groan!

The herds of cattle wander about

because there is no pasture for them;

even the flocks of sheep are dazed.

19 To you, O Lord, I cry.

For fire has devoured

the pastures of the wilderness,

and flames have burned

all the trees of the field.

20 Even the wild animals cry to you

because the watercourses are dried up,

and fire has devoured

the pastures of the wilderness.

Joel 1:15–20 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

15 Ah! For the day!

For the day of Yahweh is near.

It will come like destruction from Shaddai.

16 Is not food cut off

before our eyes,

from the house of our God,

joy and gladness?

17 The seeds shrivel under their clods;

the storehouses are desolate.

The grain storage places are destroyed

because grain has dried out.

18 How the beasts groan;

the herds of cattle wander around

because there is no pasture for them;

the flocks of sheep are in distress.

19 To you, O Yahweh, I cry out,

because fire has devoured

the pastures of the desert,

and flames burned

all the trees of the field.

20 Also, the beasts of the field

long for you,

because the courses of water

are dried up,

and fire has devoured

the pastures of the desert.

Joel 1:15–20 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

15 The day of the Lord is near.

How sad it will be on that day!

The Mighty One is coming to destroy you.

16 Our food has been taken away

right in front of our eyes.

There isn’t any joy or gladness

in the house of our God.

17 The seeds have dried up in the ground.

The grain is also gone.

The storerooms have been destroyed.

The barns are broken down.

18 Listen to the cattle groan!

The herds wander around.

They don’t have any grass to eat.

The flocks of sheep are also suffering.

19 Lord, I call out to you.

Fire has burned up the grasslands.

Flames have destroyed all of the trees in the fields.

20 Even the wild animals cry out to you for help.

The streams of water have dried up.

Fire has burned up the grasslands.

Joel 1:15–20 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

15 Alas for the day!

For the day of the Lord is near,

And it will come as destruction from the Almighty.

16 Has not food been cut off before our eyes,

Gladness and joy from the house of our God?

17 The seeds shrivel under their clods;

The storehouses are desolate,

The barns are torn down,

For the grain is dried up.

18 How the beasts groan!

The herds of cattle wander aimlessly

Because there is no pasture for them;

Even the flocks of sheep suffer.

19 To You, O Lord, I cry;

For fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness

And the flame has burned up all the trees of the field.

20 Even the beasts of the field pant for You;

For the water brooks are dried up

And fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness.
