Hosea 11:12–12:1 — The New International Version (NIV)

12 Ephraim has surrounded me with lies,

Israel with deceit.

And Judah is unruly against God,

even against the faithful Holy One.

Ephraim feeds on the wind;

he pursues the east wind all day

and multiplies lies and violence.

He makes a treaty with Assyria

and sends olive oil to Egypt.

Hosea 11:12–12:1 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

12 Ephraim compasseth me about with lies, and the house of Israel with deceit:

But Judah yet ruleth with God, and is faithful with the saints.

Ephraim feedeth on wind, and followeth after the east wind:

He daily increaseth lies and desolation;

And they do make a covenant with the Assyrians,

And oil is carried into Egypt.

Hosea 11:12–12:1 — New Living Translation (NLT)

12  Israel surrounds me with lies and deceit,

but Judah still obeys God

and is faithful to the Holy One.

 The people of Israel feed on the wind;

they chase after the east wind all day long.

They pile up lies and violence;

they are making an alliance with Assyria

while sending olive oil to buy support from Egypt.

Hosea 11:12–12:1 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

12 “Ephraim has encircled Me with lies,

And the house of Israel with deceit;

But Judah still walks with God,

Even with the Holy One who is faithful.

“Ephraim feeds on the wind,

And pursues the east wind;

He daily increases lies and desolation.

Also they make a covenant with the Assyrians,

And oil is carried to Egypt.

Hosea 11:12–12:1 — New Century Version (NCV)

12 Israel has surrounded me with lies;

the people have made evil plans.

And Judah turns against God,

the faithful Holy One.

What Israel does is as useless as chasing the wind;

he chases the east wind all day.

They tell more and more lies

and do more and more violence.

They make agreements with Assyria,

and they send a gift of olive oil to Egypt.

Hosea 11:12–12:1 — American Standard Version (ASV)

12 Ephraim compasseth me about with falsehood, and the house of Israel with deceit; but Judah yet ruleth with God, and is faithful with the Holy One.

Ephraim feedeth on wind, and followeth after the east wind: he continually multiplieth lies and desolation; and they make a covenant with Assyria, and oil is carried into Egypt.

Hosea 11:12–12:1 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

12 Ephraim encompasseth me about with lies, and the house of Israel with deceit; but Judah yet walketh with •God, and with the holy things of truth.

Ephraim feedeth on wind, and pursueth after the east wind: all day long he multiplieth lies and desolation; and they make a covenant with Assyria, and oil is carried into Egypt.

Hosea 11:12–12:1 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

12 “Ephraim surrounds me with lies.

The nation of Israel surrounds me with deceit.”

Judah rebels against God, against the Holy One who is faithful.

The people of Ephraim try to catch the wind

and try to chase the east wind all day.

They are very violent and destructive.

They make treaties with Assyria and take olive oil to Egypt.

Hosea 11:12–12:1 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

12  Ephraim surrounds me with lies,

the house of Israel, with deceit.

Judah still wanders with God

and is faithful to the holy ones.

Ephraim chases the wind

and pursues the east wind.

He continually multiplies lies and violence.

He makes a covenant with Assyria,

and olive oil is carried to Egypt.

Hosea 11:12–12:1 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

12 Ephraim has surrounded me with lies,

and the house of Israel with deceit;

and pursues the east wind all day long;

they multiply falsehood and violence;

they make a treaty with Assyria,

and oil is carried to Egypt.

Hosea 11:12–12:1 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

12  Ephraim has surrounded me with lies,

and the house of Israel with deceit;

and Judah is still wandering with God

and is faithful to the Holy One.

Ephraim herds the wind

and is pursuing the east wind all day long;

he multiplies deception and violence

and he makes a treaty with Assyria,

and oil is brought to Egypt.

Hosea 11:12–12:1 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

12 The people of Ephraim tell nothing but lies.

Israel has not been honest with me.

And Judah continues to wander away from God.

They have deserted the faithful Holy One.

The people of Ephraim look to others for help.

It’s like chasing the wind.

The wind they keep chasing

is hot and dry.

They tell more and more lies.

They are always hurting others.

They make a peace treaty with Assyria.

They send olive oil to Egypt to get help.

Hosea 11:12–12:1 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

12 Ephraim surrounds Me with lies

And the house of Israel with deceit;

Judah is also unruly against God,

Even against the Holy One who is faithful.

Ephraim feeds on wind,

And pursues the east wind continually;

He multiplies lies and violence.

Moreover, he makes a covenant with Assyria,

And oil is carried to Egypt.
