Jeremiah 9:3–4 — The New International Version (NIV)

“They make ready their tongue

like a bow, to shoot lies;

it is not by truth

that they triumph in the land.

They go from one sin to another;

they do not acknowledge me,”

declares the Lord.

“Beware of your friends;

do not trust anyone in your clan.

For every one of them is a deceiver,

and every friend a slanderer.

Jeremiah 9:3–4 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

And they bend their tongues like their bow for lies:

But they are not valiant for the truth upon the earth;

For they proceed from evil to evil,

And they know not me, saith the Lord.

Take ye heed every one of his neighbour,

And trust ye not in any brother:

For every brother will utterly supplant,

And every neighbour will walk with slanders.

Jeremiah 9:3–4 — New Living Translation (NLT)

“My people bend their tongues like bows

to shoot out lies.

They refuse to stand up for the truth.

They only go from bad to worse.

They do not know me,”

says the Lord.

“Beware of your neighbor!

Don’t even trust your brother!

For brother takes advantage of brother,

and friend slanders friend.

Jeremiah 9:3–4 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

For every brother will utterly supplant,

And every neighbor will walk with slanderers.

Jeremiah 9:3–4 — New Century Version (NCV)

shooting lies from their mouths like arrows.

Lies, not truth,

have grown strong in the land.

They go from one evil thing to another.

They do not know who I am,” says the Lord.

“Watch out for your friends,

and don’t trust your own relatives,

because every relative is a cheater,

and every friend tells lies about you.

Jeremiah 9:3–4 — American Standard Version (ASV)

And they bend their tongue, as it were their bow, for falsehood; and they are grown strong in the land, but not for truth: for they proceed from evil to evil, and they know not me, saith Jehovah. Take ye heed every one of his neighbor, and trust ye not in any brother; for every brother will utterly supplant, and every neighbor will go about with slanders.

Jeremiah 9:3–4 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

And they bend their tongue, their bow of falsehood, and not for fidelity are they valiant in the land; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they know not me, saith Jehovah. Take ye heed every one of his friend, and confide not in any brother; for every brother only supplanteth, and every friend goeth about with slander.

Jeremiah 9:3–4 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

Don’t trust any brother,

for every brother will certainly deceive,

and every friend spread slander.

and put no trust in any of your kin;

for all your kin are supplanters,

and every neighbor goes around like a slanderer.

“They get ready to use

their tongues like bows,”

Be on guard against your friends.

Do not trust the members of your own family.

Every one of them cheats.

Every friend tells lies.
