Amos 5:1–3 — The New International Version (NIV)

Hear this word, Israel, this lament I take up concerning you:

“Fallen is Virgin Israel,

never to rise again,

deserted in her own land,

with no one to lift her up.”

This is what the Sovereign Lord says to Israel:

“Your city that marches out a thousand strong

will have only a hundred left;

your town that marches out a hundred strong

will have only ten left.”

Amos 5:1–3 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

Hear ye this word which I take up against you,

Even a lamentation, O house of Israel.

The virgin of Israel is fallen; she shall no more rise:

She is forsaken upon her land; there is none to raise her up.

For thus saith the Lord God;

The city that went out by a thousand shall leave an hundred,

And that which went forth by an hundred shall leave ten,

To the house of Israel.

Amos 5:1–3 — New Living Translation (NLT)

Listen, you people of Israel! Listen to this funeral song I am singing:

“The virgin Israel has fallen,

never to rise again!

She lies abandoned on the ground,

with no one to help her up.”

The Sovereign Lord says:

“When a city sends a thousand men to battle,

only a hundred will return.

When a town sends a hundred,

only ten will come back alive.”

Amos 5:1–3 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

Hear this word which I take up against you, a lamentation, O house of Israel:

The virgin of Israel has fallen;

She will rise no more.

She lies forsaken on her land;

There is no one to raise her up.

For thus says the Lord God:

“The city that goes out by a thousand

Shall have a hundred left,

And that which goes out by a hundred

Shall have ten left to the house of Israel.”

Amos 5:1–3 — New Century Version (NCV)

Listen to this funeral song that I sing about you, people of Israel.

“The young girl Israel has fallen,

and she will not rise up again.

She was left alone in her own land,

and there is no one to help her up.”

This is what the Lord God says:

“If a thousand soldiers leave a city,

only a hundred will return;

if a hundred soldiers leave a city,

only ten will return.”

Amos 5:1–3 — American Standard Version (ASV)

Hear ye this word which I take up for a lamentation over you, O house of Israel. The virgin of Israel is fallen; she shall no more rise: she is cast down upon her land; there is none to raise her up. For thus saith the Lord Jehovah: The city that went forth a thousand shall have a hundred left, and that which went forth a hundred shall have ten left, to the house of Israel.

Amos 5:1–3 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

Hear this word, a lamentation, which I take up against you, O house of Israel. The virgin of Israel is fallen; she shall no more arise: she is cast down upon her land; there is none to raise her up. For thus saith the Lord Jehovah: The city that went forth a thousand shall have a hundred left, and that which went forth a hundred shall have ten left, for the house of Israel.

Amos 5:1–3 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

Listen to this message, this funeral song that I sing about you, nation of Israel:

The people of Israel have fallen,

never to rise again.

They lie abandoned in their own land.

There is no one to help them.

This is what the Almighty Lord says:

The city that sends 1,000 troops off to war

will have ⸤only⸥ 100 left.

The one that sends 100 troops off to war

will have ⸤only⸥ 10 left for the nation of Israel.

Amos 5:1–3 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

Listen to this message that I am singing for you, a lament, house of Israel:

She has fallen;

Virgin Israel will never rise again.

She lies abandoned on her land,

with no one to raise her up.

For the Lord God says:

The city that marches out a thousand strong

will have only a hundred left,

and the one that marches out a hundred strong

will have only ten left in the house of Israel.

Amos 5:1–3 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

Hear this word that I take up over you in lamentation, O house of Israel:

Fallen, no more to rise,

is maiden Israel;

forsaken on her land,

with no one to raise her up.

For thus says the Lord God:

The city that marched out a thousand

shall have a hundred left,

and that which marched out a hundred

shall have ten left.

Amos 5:1–3 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

Hear this word that I am going to intone over you as a lament, O house of Israel! Virgin Israel has fallen and will not rise again. She is deserted on her land; there is no one to raise her up. For thus says my Lord Yahweh, “The city that marches out with a thousand will only have a hundred left. And the one that marches out with a hundred will only have ten left for the house of Israel.”

Amos 5:1–3 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

People of Israel, listen to the Lord’s message. Hear my song of sadness about you. I say,

“The people of Israel have fallen.

They will never get up again.

They are deserted in their own land.

No one can lift them up.”

The Lord and King says,

“A thousand soldiers will march out from a city in Israel.

But only a hundred will return.

A hundred soldiers will march out from a town.

But only ten will come back.”

Amos 5:1–3 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

Hear this word which I take up for you as a dirge, O house of Israel:

She has fallen, she will not rise again

The virgin Israel.

She lies neglected on her land;

There is none to raise her up.

For thus says the Lord God,

“The city which goes forth a thousand strong

Will have a hundred left,

And the one which goes forth a hundred strong

Will have ten left to the house of Israel.”
